This is a list of my favorite (mostly free) downloads.
- IrfanView (free)
This is my favorite photo viewing/editing program because it is free, quick and allows the use of Photoshop plugins.
- Anti Red Eye (plugin) (free)
This is the best red eye program/plugin that I have found, and it's free. It is a Photoshop plugin so you would use it within another photo editing program such as Photoshop or IrfanView which I recommend above.
- ConvertToBW Pro or Standard (plugin) ($)
This is a Photoshop plugin which converts color images to black and white using adjustable color filters etc. Under Pro Tools is ConvertToBW Pro which costs $99.95. Under Image Enhancement is Convert To B&W standard which costs $39.95. The author of these plugins has ceased development and their future availability is not certain.
- GIMP - The GNU Image Manipulation Program (free)
Per the website: "GIMP is an acronym for GNU Image Manipulation Program. It is a freely distributed program for such tasks as photo retouching, image composition and image authoring." This is the best full feature free image/photo program I have found and it is compatible with plugins etc.
- ColorPic (free)
Get color info from anything you see on your desktop. Great for matching colors on websites.
This is a spell checking program that works with Internet Explorer. With this this program you can spell check anything that you enter into a text box in Internet Explorer. Very helpful for using with web based email or with online feedback forms.
This is a program that records any sound that comes through your sound card. The programs (with a plugin) can then convert the file to an MP3. Basically, any sound that you can hear on your computer you can record. Very much like when we used a cassette tape to record songs off the radio. Also great editing tools.
Protected Music Converter ($)
Convert protected or (unprotected) music files between formats. $19.95.
Google Toolbar (free)
This toolbar for Internet Explorer is very useful especially for blocking pop-ups. It also has Google Search and a Blogger button.
Allows you to print from any application to a PDF file. I use it a lot for saving my online confirmation pages when I purchase something. It is also nice if you use a laptop and need to print something in order to save the information but aren't connected to a printer at the time.
Password Agent (free and $)
Software application for storing your accounts, passwords and notes in an encrypted file. Free copy is limited to 25 entries per file. I liked it so much I purchased it for $20. The application is also exportable to a removable drive such a flash memory drive.
Per the website: "SlickRun is a free floating command line utility for Windows. SlickRun gives you almost instant access to any program or website. SlickRun allows you to create command aliases (known as MagicWords), so C:\Program Files\Outlook Express\msimn.exe becomes MAIL.
Enter a web URL into SlickRun and it will launch your browser and navigate to the specified address. Run multiple programs in a few keystrokes, jot a note, look up a definition... SlickRun is the most natural way to interact with your computer."
EditPlus (free and $)
"EditPlus is an Internet-ready 32-bit text editor, HTML editor and programmers editor for Windows. While it can serve as a good replacement for Notepad, it also offers many powerful features for Web page authors and programmers."
File Renamer Basic (free and $)
Rename files in batch. The basic version is free.
An alternative Web browser. I like this one because it run really fast. It is also an email application.
FireFox (Mozilla) (free)
Best Web browser.
Portable Firefox (free)
Another alternative browser. However, this one is designed to run off a removable drive such as a flash memory drive. There are many other very good portable apps on this web site as well.
AVG Free Advisor (free and $)
Free Anti-Virus program
